There are so many great tips for the summer months having to do with hair! This little tip has to do with the little kiddos! I have had many clients this summer bring their kids into me for a haircut, and i have had a hard time brushing through the chlorine ridden snarls! I bet a lot of moms can relate! Chlorine or bleach is a base, so it leaves a coating on your hair or skin, and because hair is more porus than skin the chlorine just grabs right on. This leaves your childs hair a sticky weird shiney allmost greesey texture. And it never feels clean! If your child swims a lot you know what I am talking about!

There is a WAY easy fix for this! All you need to do is go to your local salon, sally s, hairstylist etc. and buy a CLARIFYING SHAMPOO! Yup, so easy! The clarifying shampoo has a heavier detergent base to it, so it will take that gross coating off of your kiddos hair, and you will be surprised at the difference it makes! You may have to use the shampoo a few times depending on how bad it is. And for kids that are in the pool a lot, once a week use of a clarifying shampoo will keep their hair in good, and easy to take care of condition!

Boating and swimming season is here! If you are like me boating and swimming are two of the most fun things you can do in the summer, but one thing allways seems to hold me back. Probly because i care too much, or because i dont like to have to wash y hair more than needed, but the other part of it is the damage my hair takes from the mucky lake water, chlorine, and the sun. There is something that you can do to protect your hair through the beating it takes in the water.

My favorite thing is to ad some conditioner or leave in conditioner to my hair before getting in the water. It creates a little bit of a protein protection that helps your hair retain moisture, plus you smell good! The other problem I have faced is keeping moisture in my hair while boating all day, or spending a week in lake powell. And there is solutions to those too! In a small spray bottle combine a little bit of water, conditioner, and coconut oil to spray in your hair after getting in the water or driving in the boat for long periods of time. It works wonders! Keeps my hair de-tangled, moisturized, shiny, it smells good, AND helps bring out the curl, for a beach wave look.

Summer time! Its finally here! Which can only mean one thing.... Everyone wants lighter sun kissed hair! Here are a few tips i have learned over the years of going lighter in the summer myself, and as a stylist t for the past few years, that will help you get the look you want!

Prevent Damage
A.Make sure you go to someone who knows what they are doing! There are so many ways to over process and damage your hair with bleach, so make sure whoever is doing your highlights, or ombre look know what they are doing!
B. Make sure the stylist knows the different ways your wear your hair, and where you like the most light pieces to ensure they use propor placement.
C. Identify the type of blond you like, EX... warm honey blond or Cool pail Blond
D. Once you have colored your hair make sure to get yourself a good hydrating mask to repair any moisture and keratin lost. My favorites are Moroccan oil, lo real professionals, Karastase, and if you dont want to spent much money Coconut oil works the same as any of the above masks will.

Remember, Blond isnt great for everyone, so if it doesn't work for your skin tone, try a subtle ombre, melt, or a few highlights to maintain a good tone for you complexion.

ITTTSSSS SPRING TIME! Okay well almost, but if you are like me, you start getting spring fever the first day it is above 30 degrees outside. Time to repair your hair and re vamp! My favorite Product this month is 12 benefits! Want shiny smooth hair without the winter weigh-down? This is your product! Used as a blow dry product (comes in spray or balm) or just a leave in conditioner (use the pink spray, not the balm for  leave in), this product smooths frizz without the heavy oil. Although oil is awesome, the warmer months don't require as much moisture, so put it away till winter comes again. Its called 12 benefits, because that's exactly what is has, 12 BENEFITS. This product litteraly repairs  hair, and adds shine! IT REALLY WORKS! Take it from a girl who needs major moisture.

Febuary

Febuary can bring many different challenges for hair, the winter months are very drying! You may notice more split ends, and overall dryer and duller appearance. My favorite hydrating product is Moroccan Oil. Not only is their pure oil an awesome product, but their shampoo, conditioner and masks are the best you can get for hydration. I would recommend this product for people with dry overly porous processed hair. Mostly people with blond, or lighter colored hair will like this product because of its heavy weight. People looking for minimal hydration, who have oily or darker hair may want to opt for the light oil only. The shampoo and conditioner may weigh down hair too much.

Its January! Out with the old and in with the new, and time to form some new good habits. Many clients have said before that they cannot get their hair to feel as healthy and  smooth as when their hairstylist does it. Well, here are some tips to give yourself that head of hair you walk out of the salon with.

 

Product MATTERS! 

 Make sure you are using professional products! None of that grocery store yuck you bought on sale at Walmart. Why? Those products have all kinds of fillers and nasties the company put in the products to dilute them. Its like using glue and chemicals on your hair. Each time you use them, the fillers and chemicals inside the product coat your hair. EW! 

Also don't go and buy Biologe or Matrix at Walmart, or other department stores cause most of the time those products are tainted too! Weather they are expired, or diluted, the department store messes with the products, which makes them on the no no list also. I'm not just saying that either, I have bought what I thought to be professional products from Target and they are diluted with something (who knows what!) and did not work as well.

The WAY you wash

People don't realize that there's a good and a bad way to wash your hair, but there is! Your hair is made up of billions of little strands, chance of tangle or damage is high. 

First, focus the shampoo mostly on your roots, you can scrub there, but as far as the ends go (especially if you have log hair) be gentle! Dont rub them together like your trying to start a stinking fire! This can cause major damage especially if your hair is over processed! Not only can it cause split ends and physical tangeld damage, but it strips your hair of its natural oils, and it takes a lot to restore those!

Second, after rinsing the shampoo out, make sure you wring the excess water out before applying the conditioner. Why? Because you do not need water in your hair for conditioner, it does not need to lather. And by leaving a ton of water in your hair not only are you diluting the conditioner (and will have to use 2X s much to saturate the hair fully) but you are not taking full advantage of the moisturizing properties of the product.
